About Mikal

Mikal Dawn is an inspirational romance author, wedding enthusiast, and proud military (retired) wife. By day, she works as an administrative assistant for an international ministry organization, homeschools her teenagers, serves on the board of her daughter’s figure skating club, sweeps the dirt and leaves her son’s dog brings in from outside, and drinks lots of coffee. By night, she pulls her hair out, wrestling with characters and muttering under her breath as she attempts to write while dinner is burning. And drinks lots of coffee. When she isn’t writing about faith, fun, and forever, she is obsessively scouring Pinterest (with coffee in hand, of course!) for wedding ideas for her characters.

Mikal holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and an associate’s degree in Accounting (both from Liberty University), and in addition to her current job, has worked in accounting, and as an assistant to authors, both in person and virtually (they kept her on her toes!).

Born and raised just outside of Vancouver, Canada, Mikal has lived throughout the southern United States, currently residing in Oklahoma with her husband, their two teenagers (their adult son is a neighbour and they’re mighty happy about it!), one ferocious feline, and one crazy canine–and a blue betta fish!

  1. Hi Mikal: Learned of you through ACFW Loop asking for us to introduce ourselves. Really like the pictures especially of the bird. I’m sure the cat would be happy to say hello to bird (haha)! Looking forward to learning more about you. I am new to ACFW and to Fiction Writing. I just recently put the pen to paper (4 days ago). I also like the way you let people know that you are working toward publication, by using the words ‘aspiring (pre-published)’. Very nice. Take care. Mary

    1. Thank you so much, Mary! I so appreciate your encouragement. Congratulations on the start of your journey!! I think you’ll find the ACFW members to be the most helpful, encouraging people around, especially as you start to build relationships with the other authors. ❤

  2. So happy to know of your military association. I loved our short time in the Air Force years ago, meeting so many people from all over the country and sharing so many commonalities. God bless you in all you do. Your pictures are so cute and funky-yes.

    1. Thank you so much, Kathy!! And thank you for you and your family’s service. The Air Force is a small community, and it’s always fantastic meeting someone else from our family. 🙂

  4. Ooooooooooooo, I just love all your pictures here. OH my goodness, yes. You sound like every girl’s best friend. I mean, who doesn’t love a good, hammed up photo instead of the stock beautiful ones. 🙂

    1. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! I don’t think there could ever be a stock beautiful one. It isn’t in me to not do silly photos. Case-in-point: the wedding photo I’m sticking my tongue out in. In the church. #whoops

  5. Hello Milkal,
Did you marry a US military guy or are you RCAF and down there on exchange? We’re RCAF and my husbands about to be posted back into flying search and rescue in April. I write RS and some historical. Great to meet you!

    1. Hi!! 🙂 I married into the US military. 🙂 He’s in the midst of retiring now after almost 22 years, but he was a flyer for all those years on various aircraft. Do you have anything published yet? I love supporting my fellow authors. 😀

  6. Hi, Mikal!! I just found your Instagram account and then came to your website. Your books sound so fun! Definitely going to check them out.
I’m fifteen (almost sixteen) and my family lives in Nebraska too! I write a mix of historical and modern day romance, and self-published my first book (cowritten) last December. My second is under editing, etc., to be published. 😁
You sound like a super fun person, and I look forward to reading your work!

    1. Hi Cleopatra!!!! Thank you SO MUCH for stopping by!! I loved hearing about you! ❤ And CONGRATULATIONS on your debut last December!!!! That's a huuuuge accomplishment! Depending on where you live in Nebraska, there's a big community of Christian authors (especially around the Omaha area). If ever you want to be connected to them, feel free to email me through the Contact Me page here, or message me through my page on Facebook! They're an amazing group, a lot of whom are historical romance!! 😀 (And we sadly just moved out of Nebraska to Oklahoma–I'm pretty bummed about that because I LOVED it there, but God had other plans. 🙂 )
